She is thought to be with her “boyfriend” whom is 18yrs old. His name is Matthew. We believe he’s convinced her to run away with him. We are terrified for her safety and it is unlike her to just leave without even a text. This girl is my life. She means more to me than anything else on this planet and not knowing if she’s okay is literally tearing me apart from the inside out. I want to die. PLEASE, PLEASE HELP ME! I wrote this one recently. I seem to be going through something of a depressive swing. Sometimes I want to talk to somebody, but they always say the same thing: “Cheer up.” If I could just “Cheer up” I wouldn’t have said anything in the first place, I wouldn’t have a problem. People still seem to have a number of misconceptions about mental disorders and it only makes someone who’s dealing with one worse.

From my own experience, trying to ignore the problem and cut off a conversation with someone who willingly brings it up on their own is one of the worst things you can do to them. If they reach out, they’re not yet past the point of no return. Telling them to “Get happy,” (You know who you are), and effectively pushes them farther into the problem. After a while, they won’t be willing to talk anymore. They won’t see the point when people jokingly make comments that deny the seriousness of the situation and make them feel like they shouldn’t be the way they are but have no way to fix it.

Feeling alone is a dark place to be. Making someone feel alone, is one way to set them on a downward spiral. Don’t. We need you. Even if it’s just a minor compliment, a smile or a friendly hug it can make a difference; however small. Showing that you care can be a powerful thing for someone struggling with their own mind. Having someone to hold me while I cry, instead of say “We can talk later, you look like you’re about to break down,” would be a true gift right now.

I started crying while typing. Please, listen if someone tries to talk to you. Be serious if it’s a serious issue. It’s alright to make jokes about this kind of thing, but when someone honestly needs your support, you need to set the joking aside. Show you care.
